South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism announced that Greenville's West End the recipient of the 2008 Governor's Cup. The prestigious award was presented during the Industry Awards Luncheon at the Governor's Conference on Tourism and Travel in Columbia. The Greenville Convention & Visitors Bureau recently nominated Greenville's West End for the award on behalf of Greenville's Community Leadership.
The Governor's Cup is open to all tourism partners that have demonstrated a significant tourism-related economic impact on the state and local community and markedly improved the quality of life for South Carolinians including attractions, events, regional tourism offices, tourism businesses, Convention & Visitors Bureaus and Chambers of Commerce.
Greenville's West End has opened the door for tourism, increasing visitors and the quality of life for Greenville and Upcountry residents. The opening of new anchor attraction such as Liberty Bridge at Falls Park, West End Field, and RiverPlace, combined with the Peace Center for the Performing Arts, and flourishing shops, restaurants and events, has spurred tourism growth throughout Greenville County.
