- Take Main St. to the West End. Turn left at Augusta St. cross Church St. and continue.

Turn left on Mauldin Rd., then, at the next light, take a right on Pleasantburg Dr. (Rte. 291). Follow Pleasantburg Dr. across I-85. After 2mi, continue straight as southbound US-25 joins Rte. 291. In 2mi, cross over toll-raod I-185.

- After 10mi, watch for signs for Happy Cow Creamery just before McKelvey Rd. (left side). Turn left on McKelvey Rd. and drive 1mi to Happy Cow (right side).

As you turn into the driveway of Happy Cow Creamery, a herd of dairy cows may be in the pasture. At the farm store, grab a snack from shelves stocked with produce, cider, cheese, nuts; there's ice cream in the freezer.

- Back on US-25, continue south 20mi, crossing over the Saluda River. After 6mi, bear left on Rte. 254. Proceed 1mi to the intersection of Rte. 246; then continue another 2mi on Rte. 254 until you see Park Seed Co. & Wayside Gardens (right side).

As you enter Park Seed Co. & Wayside Gardens, nine acres of fields, flowers, vegetables, shrubs and trees spread out before you.

- Backtrack 1mi to Rte. 246; turn right onto Rte. 246. Continue to the junction of Rte. 246 and 34 in the town of Ninety Six. Follow the signs to Ninety Six National Historic Site, 2mi ahead (left side).

- Once you've toured the site, make your way back to Ninety Six and Rte. 34. Turn right onto Rte. 34 towards Newberry (29mi).

After 6mi, you will glimpse Lake Greenwood (Left side) behind the houses that line this manmade 11,400-acre lake. As you cross the Saluda River, there is a picturesque view of the dam (left side); no doubt, the waters will be hosting a few anglers.

- Pass through the town of Chappells. After 16mi, at the intersection of Rte. 34 and Rte. 121, turn left to stay on Rte. 34. Continue 7mi to Newberry. Turn left on Nance St., then turn right on Main St. Find a place to park on main St.

In Downtown Newberry, try Delemater's for lunch (uphill from the opera house at 1117 Boyce St.; 803-276-3555). This former bank building features a vault now pressed into service as a wine cabinet. Try the crab cake sandwich, or if you're in a playful mood, the "big kid's grilled cheese."

After lunch, stroll through Downtown Newberry, enjoying the antique and collectible shops. To conclude your tour of Newberry, make your way over to the Newberry Opera House.

As you come into the town of Clinton, notice the handsome First Presbyterian Church on Carolina Ave., with cloisters and arched doorways.

As Downtown Laurens gives way to the residential streets, notice three large churches in a row (right side).
