Greenville Open Studios, is a weekend event which opens the studios of local visual artists to the public. The event, scheduled for November 3-4, 2007, showcases artists at work in their creative environment.
Presented by the Metropolitan Arts Council (MAC) of Greenville, the self-guided tour will feature 104 artists and their studios, the largest in its six-year history. The concept provides free and convenient public access to visual arts in order to educate and create a dialogue between artists and the general public. By opening their place of work and inviting the public to participate in the creative process, the goal is to encourage a greater appreciation and interest in visual arts.
"This showcase has something for everyone - from the seasoned collector, to the first-time buyer, and as works of study for both the professional and amateur painters," says Alan Ethridge, MAC Executive Director. "It has truly evolved into the premier exhibit and sales event for the Greenville areas' local artists."
Studio locations are concentrated in downtown Greenville but also include artists in Easley, Greer, Travelers Rest and Dacusville. A catalogue highlighting the featured artists includes a directional map to the various studios and is available in advance of the tour.
Studio tour hours are:
Saturday, November 3, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
Sunday, November 4, 12:00 noon to 6:00 pm
Sponsored by Wachovia Bank, N.A. and now in its sixth year, Greenville Open Studios began as an idea cast about during a casual conversation between a small group of artists several years ago; they discussed doing something to raise awareness of Greenville's tremendous community of creative artists. The idea has evolved into a full-fledged annual event drawing the attention of Greenville residents, as well as, out-of-town visitors.
The Greenville Convention and Visitors Bureau is the primary marketing agency responsible for promoting the greater Greenville area as an attractive destination for meetings, conventions, trade shows, and leisure travelers.
